3 phrases NEVER SAID BY ANYONE EVER about the song "Jesus Loves Me"

Here are 3 phrases NEVER SAID BY ANYONE EVER about the song “Jesus Loves Me” -

  1. That’s song’s got a fresh beat!
  2. This really appeals to kids after they turn 5!
  3. This is the best dance song ever!

You’ve heard Jesus Loves Me a million times but never like this. I re-worked Jesus Loves Me and created the video below because my kids 1) love to dance, 2) one has moved into the “that songs for kids” (cue the eyeroll) phase, and 3) I wanted them to tell Jesus they love Him because of His love!

Remembering that your kids will often follow your lead while they pretend you’re crazy, throw on this video and just dance (think Carlton: Fresh Prince)/lip sync (think Jimmy Fallon and hairbrush microphones). You’ll be surprised how quickly they relate to the familiarity of the words AND won’t think it was made for their younger siblings. Then at dinner or bedtime, ask some simple questions like: how do you know Jesus loves you? when do you feel like He love you most? Why do you think He loves you? Do you think you’ve ever done something so bad that Jesus may have second thoughts about loving you?

The song addresses all of these questions so be proactive . . .be real . . . and have fun!

IF YOU’RE BORED, PLEASE STOP HERE. IF YOU WANT TO GET PERSONAL, READ ON :)!

“Jesus loves me” was one of, if not the, first songs I remember learning as a child. I specifically remember my dad singing it too me as a child while we inched up SPACE MOUNTAIN at Disney World towards the first drop. He was singing. I was crying. Out loud.

As I’ve grown older, I’ve been challenged by the simplicity of the words: "Jesus loves me this I know. For the Bible tells me so".

  • I’ve made some really bad choices in my life. Does Jesus really still love me?
  • There are times I not only doubt His goodness, but I doubt His sovereignty. Does He love me then?
  • I’ve experienced seasons in my walk with Christ where the Bible has felt like words on a page rather than a story of God’s redemptive love. Does He love me then?

God reminds me that while I’m no longer a child in age, He has reconciled me to Himself as a child of God through Jesus!

Galatians 3:26 - So in Christ Jesus you are all children of God through faith . . .

Romans 8:16 - The Spirit himself bears witness with our spirit that we are children of God

So today I pray for child-like faith - for my head to catch up with my heart - to run to Jesus with abandon trusting and believing that His love for me is unimaginable . . .ALL the time. My love for Him is only because of His great love for me!
